Sunny Harbour Restaurant @ Hurstville

On sunny Monday (Queen's Birthday) after a long weekend of drinking and pseudo hang overs (I didn't drink but I still felt hung over), we decided to treat our bodies to some yum cha.

Mind you, there was a $3 public holiday surcharge per head. I personally feel it's a bit ridiculous, Public holidays are no different to any other day, it's like how I feel about restaurants/cafes/shops charge a fee for people using their SAVINGS account.

Any who, let's have a look at the food.

Egg tart is egg tart, however, the pastry crust was a little short and literally crumbled in the paper shell. I couldn't even pick it up. It was yummy though.

What do you even call these? Fried pastry prawns with sesame?? It went well with sour sauce.

Prawn and chives, you must be thinking there's a lot of prawn - my partner is not a meat eater so... prawn prawn prawn.

Prawn in rice noodles, soaked in soy sauce. This wasn't bad, but I prefer rice noodles wrapped around crispy deep fried dough (you tiao)

Prawn puffs, I really liked this, you really can't go wrong with deep fried glutinous pastry.

Prawn and scallops, the caviar wasn't too impressive, but everything else was fine. I'm sure they use the same packet of frozen prawn for all prawn dishes. Taste was uniform across all prawn dishes.

Da Chang Jin @ Hurstville

Korean food is one of my favourite, hot pot during winter and cold noodles during summer. They also provide you with delicious compliment sides.

Above is a small vegetarian hot stone rice dish, this came in a set with the trio below.  There's really not a whole lot to this dish, not a lot of flavour until you've put the sauce not.

Quite impressed with the flavours of this trio, a part from the tempura, ample dressing on the salad and lots of flavour in the beef. The beef however, was a little tough.

I never liked buckwheat noodles until this dish. Cold broth and buckwheat noodles. The broth is really light, with a hint of vinegar. A really refreshing dish during summer.

Worth Returning?
Yes - however, I do prefer Dae Jang Geum in the the CBD.

KampongBoy @ Hurstville

Malaysian food is one of my all time favourite. KampongBoy is a little restaurant to quench your thirst and fill your tummy if you are down in the St George area.

The Lemon Milk Tea was extra lemony and very refreshing, while the 3 layer milk tea was a little sweeter than expected. The bottom layer was extremely sryupy.

Hainese Chicken has always been a well loved dish. The chicken was tender and flavoursome when dipped in the chilli and soy sauce. The rice however, tasted like it's been a few days old or it may have been mixed with old rice. Chunky bits of rice every second mouthful.

Fish Curry is not for the faint hearted. It is extra hot with lots of spices and chilli. Not too impressed with the amount of fish in this dish, it was labelled as a main and only had 2 fish fillets.

Service
Good service, attentive waiters.

Worth Returning?
Once in a while!

Review: Man Cafe @ Hurstville

Probably one of the more substantial Cafes in Hurstville, I went to Ella's Patisseries a couple of years back and they served me instant coffee. I'm curious to know the underlying meaning behind the name of the cafe. Most diners present were couples or friends catching up. There was a steady inflow of female diners, I wonder if the same would happen for men if the cafe was called "Woman Cafe". Anyway, that is beyond the point, lets get down to food business.

Hawaiian Light Approx $4-$5

A delicious blend of tropical fruit juices, including pineapple and orange.

Ice Chocolate - $5

This drink was fantastic, purely based on the fact that it's chocolate with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Delicious!

Vegetarian Breakfast - Approx $12
Baked beans, Toast, Eggs, Mushroom, Avocado, Tomato and Hashbrown

We both got vegetarian breakfast (with scrambled eggs/poached eggs). It was too early in the morning to eat oily sausages. This meal was significantly bigger than what I initially imagined. I was pleasingly bloated after this massive breakfast. A part from the hair in my mushroom, it was not a bad breakfast. However, the hair was a real down fall.

Worth Returning?
Potentially, service was excellent, food was quite nice... the hair ruined the experience for me. As much as I wanted to love this place and return for more breakfasts, I might need some time before I make a return.
